Located in a historic Charleston storefront, Renzo is the first full-service restaurant project from Faculty Lounge owners Erik and Nayda Hutson. Erik, a licensed architect and contractor, designed and renovated the space himself. From building out the kitchen to fabricating casework to constructing booths and tables, he spent more than a year finishing the restaurant by hand. The restaurant opened its doors early March 2018.

Prior to starting construction, the husband-and-wife duo teamed up with Chef Evan Gaudreau, a CIA graduate and Boston native who previously worked at Xiao Bao Biscuit and the Ordinary, two of the couple's local favorites. Evan's natural talent and thoughtful approach to food made him the best choice to deliver a sophisticated yet familiar menu highlighting market-driven Italian-influenced cuisine and Neo-Neapolitan wood-fired pizza. The menu changes often, with frequent specials, themed dinners, and featured winemaker visits rounding out the offerings. During happy hour, we highlight our Detroit-style pizza, slices of which are only available during this time.

The beverage program focuses on natural wine, a growing movement for which Nayda is a keen proponent. The wine list is designed to highlight small, family-run estates, underrated regions and varietals, and terroir-driven producers who champion low-intervention winemaking practices. Low markups are meant to encourage guests to approach wine from a more everyday, casual perspective and take a chance on lesser-known bottles.
